QUESTIONS:

Do I need to be an artist to attend?

No. We welcome all who have an interest in art. Wheter you want to develope a creative practice or just meet friends.

Who works at Queer Youth Art Collective?

Find the full staff list on our ABOUT page. There you can see the facilitators who will be supporting you during the day.

What happens during the drop in time?

Both our online Zoom and in-person spaces are open from 1 pm, and our facilitators will be on hand to offer help with any creative projects you might be working on, or advise on any upcoming opportunities with QYAC such as exhibitions or Young Artist Commissions.

What happens during a workshop?

Workshops are facilitated by queer artists ranging in disciplines from illustration and painting to performance art to puppetry. We also have members hosting a number of workshops each term through our Young Artist Commissions.

Workshops begin at 1 pm and usually involve a mix of individual work and sharing ideas with the group. We try to integrate the online and offline groups as much as possible in sessions to maximise the opportunity for connection and feedback.

What happens during Social/1:1 mentoring time?

After each session, both spaces will stay open until 5 pm for members to finish their work and socialise. If any members have requested 1:1 mentoring it will usually happen at this time. Mentoring requests can be made on the day, but emailing in advance will help us direct you to the member of staff with the most relevant creative experience.

What’s available In Person?

The in-person space has a variety of tools and resources that you are welcome to use including paper, pens, pencils, inks, paints, thread and fabric for embroidery, and we have other resources such as lino printing that can be used on request. All of these are free to use before and after workshops.

I am joining online, will I need specific materials?

We ensure that whatever exercises we do are accessible no matter what materials you have on hand. We assume everyone has access to pen and paper, and are able to use their computers to write. If a workshop requires specific materials (eg a photography workshop might require a camera on your phone) members will be notified beforehand via email.
