10 week RESIDENCY FOR YOUNG QUEER ARTISTS IN LONDON!

Queer Youth Art Collective and Camberwell Space are running a 10-week studio residency for LGBTQIA+ folks aged 18-28 who want to learn how to develop their own studio practice.  

For this, we are looking for 30 young people to join us at Camberwell College of Art, starting January 2026.  


The residency is open to all mediums. You might be a dancer, a painter, a writer or a clown! No previous experience required. We want to hear from you!

What is included? 


  • Access to a studio 5 days a week (10-5pm) for 10 weeks (days may vary)
  • Mentoring from QYAC Directors and Camberwell Space Team
  • Workshops facilitated by technicians from Camberwell College of Arts
  • 2 public open studio events 
  • £100 individual material bursary
  • As a collective you will have a budget of £800 for a materials budget and £2000 for a shared project.  



How do I apply?


At QYAC we believe everyone is an artist, so no examples of previous work needed. We are interested in helping you develop your practice whether or not you have an existing portfolio. All you need to do is to fill out a short form. The only requirement is that you identify as queer and/or LGBTQIA+, and that you can attend at least 2 days per week. 


The selection process will be a random lottery, but we will ensure priority for:


  • People living in and around Southwark
  • People who have not attended art school at university
  • People not in education or employment
  • People from the global majority
  • People who identify as disabled
  • People from low income backgrounds

ABOUT


Queer Youth Art Collective (QYAC) has run workshops for LGBTQ young people 18-28 since August 2019. The project delivers newly commissioned workshops by LGBTQ artists and youth forums for attendees to discuss their practice and socialise. These alternate weekly on Sundays .

Our primary aims are to challenge isolation, provide free and engaging arts workshops and build skills and infrastructure for a resilient, peer-led LGBTQ arts and education culture in London and throughout the UK.

We currently run 2 groups: ONLINE on ZOOM & IN PERSON From Queer Circle in Greenwich London.

Becca Thomas is an artist and educator living in London.

Her practice encompasses reflective practice, research into Kikuyu and Welsh mythology, talisman making, and tarot.

Dex is an arts producer, drag cabaret artist and theatre maker. They creative director of the queer, Jewish cabaret Homos and Houmous.

Dex has performed at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, VFD, Tate Britain and Queer Spirit Festival and given talks on trans inclusion and theatre practice at Hackney Showrooms, Hampstead Theatre, Ovalhouse and RADA.

Fred is a ceramicist and illustrator whose designs can be seen throughout the nightlife scenes of London, Birmingham and Stockholm.

They have facilitated art courses at Camden Arts Centre and Camberwell College of Art and run art workshop programmes with Studio Voltaire. 

Fred co-founded Queer Youth Art Collective with art therapist Susy Langsdale in 2019.
